your Pet’s procedure.

Pre-Anesthetic Blood Screen
Anesthesia carries some risk. The anesthetic agents are removed from the body by the liver, kidneys, and lungs. It is important to know before anesthesia that these organs are functioning well. Bloodwork helps us make this determination. If there is any indication of organ dysfunction, appropriate steps can be taken to ensure the safety of your pet.
This testing can be done a few days before surgery or it can be done the morning of the surgery in the office. If there is an indication of an abnormality, your doctor will contact you before proceeding with anesthesia and/or surgery.
Intra Operative Fluid Therapy
Dehydration is a common problem associated with anesthesia. Drugs used to sedate them and Maintain anesthesia may contribute to dehydration. Low blood pressure is associated with anesthesia and can result in an inadequate blood flow through the kidneys and other organs. This can result in severe medical problems. Intra operative fluids will provide rapid elimination of anesthetic drugs by both influencing and promoting hydration and maintaining blood pressure.
Post Operative Pain Medication
Studies have shown that while animals exhibit signs of pain differently, they still experience pain much the same as we do. For this reason all of our patients receive Pre and Post operative pain medication to keep them as pain free as possible during their surgical recovery.
All surgery patients at Silver Bluff Animal Hospital are closely monitored with state of the art instrumentation. These technologies, along with pre-anesthetic screening, reduce the risk of anesthesia to its lowest possible level.
If you have any questions regarding your pet’s upcoming procedure, you will have a debriefing session with one of our technicians before surgery.
